Great Holiday Gift Idea : A Weekend Get-Away

Sometimes the holidays can be a little trying, if your partner gets overwhelmed by the holidays or if you just want to escape during the winter months a Weekend get-away is a great present to give. Go ahead a pick a weekend and book your room and find things to do around the area. It can be in a large city or a quiet country cabin what ever floats your boat. Once you have the date set and have made all the arrangements, find a brochure on the location and wrap it up for you sweetheart. Put some weight in the box or some old clothes to throw you partner off a little bit. You can place a note inside explaining the trip or you can just let them guess as they pull out the brochure. A skiing weekend or maybe a trip to a warm spot like the Caribbean would get your partner jumping up and down on Christmas day. Don't have a lot of money then search the Internet for cheap hotel rooms, their are several sites that offer discounted hotel rooms such as priceline.com I get a email each week of hotel rooms for $39 at different location, their is no catch it is just the hotels trying to drum up business during these tough times, so why not take advantage of it. The best part about this is that your partner will have no idea about it and those are the type of gifts that usually get the best reactions.

Throw your troubles in the lake!

Sometimes in our everyday life we get bogged down with our troubles. We focus on them and let them consume us. Well today I want the two of you to go out to the local lake, stream, or ocean and toss those troubles into the water. Sound like I have lost my marbles?????? Seriously what I want you to do is go out and get some sharpie makers and head to your local body of water. Upon arriving, search the bank or shore of several good sized rocks. Now both of you sit down and write on the rocks you troubles or concerns, that are bothering you currently. Once you have completed that, gather up all the stones and read what is written on the rock and then toss it as far as you can into the water! There your trouble is gone, and you should be feeling better. No this is not a magical event it is just letting your mind let go of these problems for a bit and by doing that you might get a more clear idea of how to get rid of your problems. After all this before you get ready to leave gather up some more rocks and write things on them that you are thankful for. Take these home with you and put them in a safe place. Then the next time you are feeling down pull them out and share them with your partner. I am sure it will bring a smile to your face.

Time Away

You know sometimes we all just need some time away. I think this is a good thing in a relationship. It reminds you of the longing you had for each other when you relationship was new. You remember the days hoping the other person would call you for a date. Well when we are apart we need to remember those feeling. Today it is even easier to stay in touch with cell phones and email. So when your a couple you really are never disconnected.

Going to work helps with the separation from time to time. It's nice to come home to your partner when you haven't seen them all day. You usually have things to talk about or concerns that arose during your day. It's a chance for you two to get reconnected on a daily basis. My parents worked together for 20 plus years and when they were off they had nothing to talk about. So I think it is important for a relationship to have time apart.

Now I don't think long absences are necessarily good for a relationship when they are frequent. I do, however, think they are good every once in a while. They bring back those feelings that you really miss your partner. When you know they will be home at five you don't really get the same feeling. Make note of how you feel when your partner returns home from an extended period of time. I bet your heart is racing and you just can't wait to get them in your arms.

Here is an exercise to try. Spend the day apart, totally. No calls, no emails, go for a day away with your friends or just by yourself. Then make dinner plans for the two of you that evening. I want you to not even see each other until dinner time. It will be like a date you had when you were dating. You just might remember how special that person setting across the table from you is. That is if you have forgotten.
