Just drop it all and go to dinner

Have you ever had a day when the kids are driving you nuts your stuck in the house and you are ready to just loose it? I am sure most of us have had those days. It's not like we don't love our kids or that the stress of life is really that different then any other day. It's just a break down in strength. When this happens you need to fall back on your relationship to pick you up. This is important to get you a babysitter for the evening and go to dinner with your favorite adult, your partner. Go to a place where the two of you can have adult conversation and make sure it never enters into what is going on at home. Talk about politics, investments, movies, or anything else that grown ups talk about. This is specially needed for the man/woman that stays at home and takes care of the children and the house. That is a stressful job in it's self and sometimes you need a few hours off to recharge your batteries. Plan these escapes regularly and you might just see an improvement in the whole cycle. Honor those that take care of the important things at home they are truly a blessing.

Save money together.

Our economy right now has everyone struggling to find ways to cut costs. Doing it together can be beneficial and fun. Get the sunday paper and go through the coupons together. Find the best prices on items by searching the internet and comparing. Make these actions an adventure for the two of you. Do some more research and find fun free things to do for you and your family. These are all great ways to save money and enjoy your time together doing it. Make it a contest to see who can find the best prices or the most fun free thing to do. With a little love and hard work you will not only save a lot of money but build a relationship where two people know how to work as a team.

Independence Day

Independence Day stands for a lot of things here in the United States and our freedom is the most important. America was build on the fact that we can do what we want and feel comfortable expressing ourselves. So I want to start today by thanking all the people through out our history that made this happen. I enjoy being able to blog and not worry that someone is going to come up and say to me you that I can't do what I enjoy.

Relationship independence is also something you need to have in your life. Do you have things that you enjoy doing outside of your relationship? Maybe it is hanging with your friends or having some alone time. Either way make sure to find time for you to have some independence. Use it to make your relationship stronger, so that you have things to talk about later in the day. Don't use it as a time to break your commitment with you partner or to do things that might jeopardise your relationship. Go golfing with you buddies but when they start being obnoxious towards the opposite sex, don't join in. Have fun but remember you have someone at home that you love very much.

Get a Routine Going.

You want more free time and you don't want to spend it working around the house. Well you need to get more organized in your cleaning routine. If you don't want to spend the weekend doing chores, you need to make a routine and follow it through the week. Do the dishes in the morning, sweep before bed, laundry while your watching your favorite show. Find ways to do these chores during times you can combined them with other events. This way when the weekend gets here you have plenty of time to do what you want. Split the chores up and make sure both partners are carrying their weight and you will now be wondering what to do that is fun.

Stress got you down ..Get out some old pictures.

Is your partner stressed? Are they having a terrible day at work or traffic got them ready to strangle someone. We all feel like this from time to time. When you or your partner are feeling the weight for stress I suggest getting out some of your old photos. Get the ones of the two of you on vacation or on your honeymoon. They can be pictures of your children romping through the woods, or holiday gatherings. The only stipulation is that the events in the pictures were relatively stress free. Remember the time you spend together when you were dating, and the only thing that meant anything was the two of you. Do you have pictures of that time in your life well bring them out if you do. Remember the funny time when your cares where not even present and bring out pictures of that. You might have to do a little digging in the basement or attic but you know that those images are there.

Help your partner recover from their stress. Take them back to a place ,with the use of old photos, that will sooth their inner beast.

We cannot relive the past but we can remember it!

Checkbook

One of the most common fights couples have is about money. There never seems to be enough money when you are trying to budget for two or a whole household. Yes we have to set boundaries and budgets yet we also have to have a little freedom. My feelings are that you need to have one checkbook that takes care of your household bills, car payments, insurance, etc. That way the both of you can oversee the finances. This checkbook should stay at the house never to leave. If you need to use it for groceries, or outside purposes, get a debit card. Neither partner should carry this checkbook around with them. That is set in stone, both of you know exactly where that checkbook is at all times. You can designate one or both of you to pay the bills as they come in.

Now here is where I side track from most people. I think that both partners should also have either their own checking account or at least a preloaded debit card. Why? you might ask. Because we all have things we would like to purchase that we don't want to have to ask the other partner if it is okay. Set a predetermined amount to deposit in these accounts each pay period and then hands off the others account. This will allow them to save for things they might want to purchase or to buy you presents for anniversaries, birthdays, or other holidays. We use to keep all our money in one pot and it made if very difficult to purchase an anniversary present for my wife. Either I would ask her for a certain amount of money and then I had to answer 20 questions as to why I needed it. If I didn't get approval first the checkbook would show the deed anyway. Then I would be answering questions like "Why did you write a check to Victoria's Secret the other day" Thus my surprises where always blown.

If you decide to do this you cannot judge the other person on what they buy with their budgeted amount. For instance if you partner saves their money and purchases a $250 ipod. You cannot say "We could have used that money to buy this or that" They have made the effort and sacrificed other things to get this item. Make an effort to understand their purchase, usually most people have a reason to buy something. This technique also helps out if one of you is a classic over spender. Now they are limited to only the amount in their checking account, while the other remains off limits to both partners.

Relationships are tough enough but throw in money problems and they become even tougher. This ours, mine and yours technique gives everyone a little variance and a chance to purchase things without getting approval from the relationship committee. Lastly just to add don't make these individual accounts with credit cards that can be a nightmare only use accounts where you deposit money and that is all you can withdraw.
